QR codes: not for your eyes only

For the longest time I didn’t have a “smart phone” so it wasn’t until I did get one that I started noticing these black & white, pixellated little boxes called QR codes next to applications for my Google Android phone. It wasn’t for my eyes to decipher, but for my phone! Nowadays smart phones can download and interact with new levels of data.

Much like a book barcode or UPC code, these QR codes can be “read” by fancy new phones via downloadable laser applications. You can now have a scanner–an honest to goodness laser–in your phone! The “Early Show” on CBS had a nice segment on QR codes, including video, that explains what QR codes are, what they do, and how they are changing the way we interact, via our phones, with our increasingly mobile world.
