Innovation is (sometimes) Very Low Tech

Ok, so you pull up to go into the library, but the library is packed and there is no parking to get inside. What do you do? Wish you rode your bike? Curse the people who won't leave the library? Dream of a larger parking lot?Imagine this! A library book delivery service to your car as you cruise by the library! When notified by e-mail that the items are ready for pickup, users simply cruise to the library, cell phone a librarian and supply library card numbers, the names of items desired and descriptions of their cars.  http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/metropolitan/6594373.html

This is pretty sweet! There are also some libraries that have drive thru service windows! I'm not sure about the green implications, but it seems like a great service.

i love that anna! i agree that it may not be green, but it is meeting user needs. i wonder what other solutions combine that service and would be green? library bike courier? that would be expensive...

I think an even better service that involves about as much technology as using a cell phone is the one that Ada Community provides with their "library locker" system. I can reserve all my books online and enter my card number at the locker and the little door opens and there's my books. Since it's open 24/7 it offers an advantage over someone running out to the parking lot. I LOVE this service and hope more libraries start using it.
