The Start-Up Librarian

It is no secret that the members of SPLAT love innovation. I just read this great article in the NextGen column for Library Journal encouraging libraries to follow the lead of corporations like Google and truly create environments that support and encourage innovation, creativity, and radical ideas. What does it take to be innovative? What kind of environments do we need to inspire and support innovation? This article suggests a paradigm shift in the way libraries are organized and run. Imagine an open source ILS and catalogs that have Library 2.0 and Web 2.0 focuses. The future will look very bright for libraries that foster work environments conducive to innovation.

I'm glad you liked my article and found it interesting. It is quite a unique mindset, but one that I think will take us far in librarianship! ~Kyle Jones~ twitter: @thecorkboard site: thecorkboard.org
