Adults and Video Games

It's not just kids who play video games! Another PEW Report came out this week  - this one focused on adults who play video games.  There are some very interesting statistics from the report, one of them being that 53% of adults play video games of some kind in some way.  To find out more info like which age brackets play what kinds of games and how education and income come into the mix read the full report.

What does this mean for us? Well, I think it means we're on target with our growing video game collections and programs, but maybe we need to up our game (so to speak)? How about "M" rated games and adult video game programs?

The report results will not be a surprise to libraries that don't ban gaming on PACs. (Are there still libraries that ban them?) I get a kick out of seeing the same baby boomers spending as much time (or more!) than the teens gaming, then hearing people of the same demographic being ever so concerned about the teens' gaming habits. Let us know if your library branches out into M games and programs.

Obviously adults contribute an important share in gaming industry and let's face it, the gaming industry is aware of that and rewards them with complex adult video games. The point is that we shouldn't be surprised with this aspect anymore. Karl,

I play call of duty 4 with my 12 year old daughter for about half and hour most days. Sometimes she beats me, her reflexs are getting a lot quicker. The blood and gore doesn't bother her at all. Better for her than just watching the box and making her brain go numb. She loves to read and do sports too. Everything in moderation.
